Category 01

Distillate Cartridge

Distillate is cannabis oil refined until almost everything but the cannabinoids has been removed. The base oil in every Northdrop cartridge comes from a single production run, tested as one batch. What that testing found is published in full below — cannabinoid content, heavy metals, residual solvents and pesticide screening, exactly as the laboratory reported it.

One base distillate is used across all six flavours. The laboratory report on this page covers that base oil. Flavour comes from terpenes blended into it after distillation — these were not part of the analysis and are described below by profile, not by measurement.

  • Runtz

    Zkittlez crossed with Gelato. Sweet tropical fruit over a creamy, confectionery base — the flavour the name is borrowed from.

  • Peach Rings

    Ripe stone fruit with a sharp sour-sweet edge, finishing on soft candied sugar.

  • Watermelon OG

    Fresh melon and cucumber-cool sweetness sitting on a dry, earthy OG backbone.

  • Lime Sorbet

    Bright lime zest cut with a smooth creamy body. Sharp on the front, rounded through the finish.

  • Durban Poison

    A landrace sativa from the KwaZulu-Natal coast and the only South African native in the range. Sweet aniseed and licorice over dry pine and warm spice.

  • Cherry Pie

    Granddaddy Purple crossed with Durban Poison. Dark sweet cherry and berry with a tart edge, grounded by damp earth.

    Also known as G6. Aspen OG crossed with High Country Diesel, drawing on SFV OG Kush and East Coast Sour Diesel. Pungent diesel on the nose, cut with sharp citrus peel and finishing dry and resinous. The most assertive aroma in the Northdrop range.

How we test

Samples of both products were submitted to Ecogreen Analytics (Pty) Ltd in Somerset West, an independent laboratory holding SAHPRA Testing Laboratory Licence 0000001451.-.1. A SAHPRA licence means the laboratory is authorised by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority to test regulated health products, and that its methods, equipment and record-keeping are subject to inspection. It does not mean the product itself is registered or approved by SAHPRA.

Cannabinoids

Measures the potency of the sample: how much THC, CBD, CBG, CBN and their acid forms it contains, as a percentage of total mass. Total THC and Total CBD are calculated figures that account for acid forms converting when heated.

Heavy metals

Screens for arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury, which accumulate in cannabis from soil, water and fertiliser. This is the only panel on the report with printed acceptance criteria, shown alongside each reading.

Residual solvents

Detects solvent left behind by extraction, by headspace gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. There is no printed limit column on the report, so every result is stated against the laboratory's limit of quantification of 1.00 ppm.

Pesticides

Screens 45 agricultural chemicals down to 0.03 mg/kg. As with solvents, the report carries no limit column, so results are stated against that limit of quantification.

Where comparison does not hold

Five Category I solvents
Methylene chloride, chloroform, benzene, 1,2-dichloroethane and trichloroethylene each carry a Californian action level of 1.0 µg/g. This laboratory reports them at a limit of 1.00 µg/g, so results read as below 1.00 with no margin between the reporting limit and the action level. No comparison can be drawn.
Ethylene oxide
Also Category I, with a 1.0 µg/g action level. Not screened by this laboratory. No reading exists.
Cyclohexane
Detected at 12.67 µg/g in the resin. Not listed in California's framework, so no action level exists to compare against.
Pesticides
